Grow Food Raise Hell: undercoveranarchist: undercoveranarchist: Nicole did some maths... →
Nicole did some maths earlier while we were chatting on skype and came up with this.
“If every vegan turned another person vegan each year then technically it would only take 7 years until 76.8% of the uk population would be vegan”.
Ok people just to be clear, this is not scientific calculations by any means, just some basic maths while having a conversation about veganism.
Veganism is a nice alternative to eating factory farmed meat/dairy/eggs, but I don’t think it’s an over all solution to the issue of diet — and I have been a vegan for five years (with the exception of eating eggs from my chickens for the last year, and the handful of chickens I have killed to eat.)
I’m personally reconsidering certain aspects of veganism because I am finding so many vegan recipes containing really awful foods. Shortenings with TBHQ replacing butter, high concentrations of soy, lots of heavy oils, etc. Now of course, once could be vegan and also not eat any processed foods, sticking to organic beans, lentils, vegetables and fruit, etc.I think sustainability and relationship are key. I’d rather eat pork from my friend’s farm, where I know the pigs are raised really well out in pastures than eat GMO Monsanto corn — or even just anything that was mono-cropped in fields that used to be forests or prairies using heavy amounts of pesticides, herbicides, and petroleum powered machinery to produce.
I completely agree that vegans need to address & challenge industrial agriculture - hence why organisations such as the Vegan Organic Network or the Veganic Agriculture Network as well as a host of plant based permaculture systems are so important. I hope this is a sign of a growing awareness of challenging all forms of oppression & developing regenerative ways of feeding ourselves.
However in response to ‘sustainability and relationship’ - I really don’t feel you can have a relationship with something by domesticating it, farming it & killing it (sounds like domination to me!).
You are no longer a vegan if you eat meat. FACT. Seriously, I’ve heard this argument soo many times. It’s boring. Lets face it, lots of vegans are aware of the environmental impacts and many are changing what they eat because of it.
The key is in the sentance “Now of course, once could be vegan and also not eat any processed foods, sticking to organic beans, lentils, vegetables and fruit, etc.” Here you clearly show that you are eating meat because you choose to and not because you can’t be vegan in a sustainable way. You would rather eat your friends pigs because you want to, you probably like the taste so don’t come in here criticising veganism when you’re calling yourself vegan and eating meat. Go away.
TRIGGER WARNING: cissexism, transmisogyny, sexual assault. “Deciding to simply exclude trans women to make some cis women feel more comfortable is, in many ways, worse than patriarchal attacks on women because it’s one group of women deciding to “sacrifice” another group, doing the work of the patriarchy for it. I’ll give an example - at Pride London 2008, stewards took it upon themselves to exclude trans women from the female toilets in Trafalgar Square. THey did this the only way it really can be done - they decided to tell anyone they thought was a trans woman not to use those loos. The upshot is that lots of trans women, who didn’t look like what the stewards expected trans women to look like used the loos anyway - I was one of them, and some cis women were, as I understood, turned away because they didn’t look sufficiently cis. However, the experiences of each group when challenged were different. I understand one butch dyke, when told to use the men’s, was let through after reacting angrily and even threatening physical violence. One trans woman, however, lacking the cis privilege to simply assert her gender identity and desperate for the toilet, went in the men’s toilet, where she was sexually assaulted. When you exclude trans women from women’s spaces, be very clear that what you are doing is setting yourself up as the gender police, turning often vulnerable women away out of fear of a stereotype about who we are perpetuated by patriarchal society. Exclusion of trans women is misogyny, and it hurts all women. Stop it.”

I love Sarah Brown. Despite being a Lib Dem, she’s also a really good politician.

That’s not that Sarah Brown.

Yes it is. Sarah Brown commenting on the F Word is the same Sarah Brown who is a Lib Dem Councillor for Cambridge. This is her twitter.

TWEET THIS YOU SMALL-MINDED MOTHERFUCKER!

“You’re a dirty carpet munching cunt that belongs in my kitchen, washing my dishes and cock. Write a poem about that….”
So I took his advice and wrote the poem.
———————————————————————————————-
Obviously
you are a rotting dick/an ass wipe
an open sore existing
among the worst tumors that plague humanity
you are an apology someone should have made
to women
centuries ago
today you remain
a very good reason abortions should be legal
and available
to every woman who finds herself
carrying the figurative fetus of your fetid misogyny
get the fuck out of my womb
you hater of your own origin
you forget you came from some woman’s cunt
the pussy you so deride
provided path for you
to get here spewing such sick soliloquy
your existence
makes a good argument for capital punishment
only I hold myself
accountable to a more compassionate code of ethics
so I refrain from advocating
for the archaic quartering of you
I will also resist the urge
to imagine you shackled in sequestered servitude
kneeling at the altar of some woman’s holy cunt
washing her feet with your mouth
only
I would not wish her the degradation
of your tongue on her flesh
your feet on her floors
you are the thing I will spend my entire life
trying to protect my daughter
from/the slime of your ignorance
the sweat of your hate
coward that you are
hiding behind the intangible shroud of the virtual
your keystrokes are the only ones with any power
impotent
unimportant little man
you splatter the male identity
with the putridity you exude
rotting apple/gonorrheal wound
refusing to heal/you would have us conclude
that most people with penises are like you
but for the stellar examples of men in my life
I would think you the norm
your actions would inform the love I cradle
for the small boys in my circle
earnestly learning
how to be better than the monster you are
far and away
fairytales and fiction pervade what they know of vaginas
valuing virginity over the virtue of being fair
bravado over advocating for equality
you make me wish I had a son
to personally prove your antithesis possible
Frankenstein
you frighten me
with your ability to keep breathing
your inclination to replicate
to recruit
to keep pressing the boot of your discrimination
upon the necks of generation after generation
after generation
the only thing that prevents me from raising arms
and going guerilla after you with guns
is our collective dedication
to the eradication of your kind
across all the borders of feminism
and race
and spaces held wire against the throat of equality
women resist heart and body
cunts and collarbones
kitchens and bedrooms
we rebuke all you offer as fact
the act of tweeting something does not make true
you are only a narrow opinion
constructed poorly
one hundred forty characters/your cavalry
is not nearly as committed as mine
you and your cronies were contrived
to keep the best parts of us broken
these poems you and your drones continue to encourage
these litanies I continue to compose
will stand as evidence your crumbling tyranny
time will hold your actions
your utterances
as shameful
as it was with every disease before you
the strongest/most admirable parts of being human
will keep adapting/over and over
history has already shown us
what doesn’t kill us/will make our resistance stronger
however unpleasant
the uphill task of surviving you as pandemic
can only make our species more immune

Me too, i was gonna moan about my awful thigh chaffage of late but it cheered me up no end reading that so I shan’t bother.

listen bitch, imma creep to your house. come to your room. fuck you while you sleep. sliced your vagina open till it reached your throat. pour salt and vinegar on it. and deep fry you to death. i warned you.
Whoa there. It’s totally appropriate to call this person out for their awful racism but it is NOT okay to do that in a horrifically mysoginistic way. Threatening to rape and mutilate someone is NEVER okay. How would you have reacted if you didn’t percieve this person to be female? Maybe you would have threatened to rape them too? I doubt it but just on the offchance, in case you don’t already know [since I seem to have to spell this shit out for you] that would also NOT BE OKAY.

Church excommunicates mother and doctors for performing a life saving abortion on a 9-year old rape victim– but not her father, her accused rapist →
horrified and saddened by the church’s position on this matter. As more and more of these cases come to light, I wonder ever more whose rights the church is really interested in protecting. If the 9 year old girl who was raped was a 6 week old fetus, she would be receiving more compassion from the church than she has during this ordeal, and that is horrifying. This girl was sexually abused by her father for years and got pregnant at age 9 through rape. Obviously this constitutes a medical emergency, since pregnancy and birth would have been absolutely life threatening. As always, the church decides that life must always be protected - at the expense of those who need the protection of the church the most. I ask what about the life of the 9 year old girl whose life has been ruined through this ordeal, who has escaped excommunication only because the church views her as still a child, making their position even more egregious? What about her life? Here are some quotes from the article, including the ones that detail the fact that the church will NOT be excommunicating the father:
Cardinal Giovanni Batista Re, who heads the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, told reporters that although the girl fell pregnant after apparently being abused by her stepfather, her twins had, “the right to live, and could not be eliminated”. In an interview with the Italian newspaper, La Stampa, the cardinal added: “It is a sad case but the real problem is that the twins conceived were two innocent persons. Life must always be protected.”
The controversy represents a PR nightmare for the Vatican. The unnamed girl’s mother and doctors were excommunicated for agreeing to Wednesday’s emergency abortion yet the Church has not taken formal steps against the stepfather, who is in custody. Jose Cardoso Sobrinho, the conservative regional archbishop for Pernambuco where the girl was rushed to hospital, has said that the man would not be thrown out of the Church, because although he had allegedly committed “a heinous crime”, the Church took the view that “the abortion, the elimination of an innocent life, was more serious”.
Even the President, Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva, has waded into the row. “As a Christian and a Catholic, I deeply regret that a bishop of the Catholic Church has such a conservative attitude,” he said “The doctors did what had to be done: save the life of a girl of nine years old. In this case, the medical profession was more right than the Church.”
Fuck off, world.

Interview about her new project with the Huffington Post. Interviewer is bold, CS is plain text.
So I was reading about your new show,…
I don’t really understand why she’s getting so much hate for this…? She said that she felt really bad after using the T word, and that she didn’t know it was wrong. It seems like after she was told it was wrong, she stopped saying it and apologized. As for her playing a trans* character….that’s why it’s called acting. I feel like, if a trans* woman actress had been cast in this role, people would have been angry and said “OBVIOUSLY they would cast a trans*woman in this role, do they think she’s not good enough to play cis characters, they’re typecasting her, etc.” Now, maybe there were a bunch of trans*women actresses who also auditioned for the part, and were denied. In that case, I could see why people are angry about Chloe getting the part instead of them. But I don’t know if that’s the case.
Acting is acting. If directors only cast actors who were exactly like their characters, then it wouldn’t be acting.
She didn’t know it was wrong? Bullshit. She says that but nobody could play a trans woman TWICE and not know that word is a slur.
And she says she feels bad but then she whines about how “ree-donkulous” it is that “you can’t say anything anymore!”. What’s ree-donkulous is that this woman is being given a platform AGAIN to present an image of trans women to the public that is neither representative nor sensitive nor trans.
I feel like acting would be just acting if trans* people were actually cast in major tv shows and movies, not ignored for cis actors and actresses to play cis and trans* characters.
Urgh.
